Visual Design Studio (Code Name: Ed)

Ed is the SpiffWorks browser-based authoring environment for BPMN process models. It is designed for teams that want to create diagrams, edit supporting files, run process behavior while building, and keep process model files synchronized with source control.

Ed is not part of the open source SpiffWorkflow distribution. This documentation is public so users can find day-to-day guidance and evaluators can understand how Ed fits with Spiff Arena.

Where Ed Fits

Use Ed when you are authoring or changing a process model. Use Spiff Arena when you are deploying, administering, and running finished process models for end users.

Both products use BPMN and the same supporting process files, such as JSON Schema forms and DMN tables. That means authoring patterns documented for forms, service tasks, task assignment, and display content usually apply in both places, while the screen-by-screen workflow differs.
